प्रीपेड नंबरों को बंद कर उसमें जमा बैलेंस को जब्त करना अब मोबाइल फोन ऑपरेटरों के लिए आसान नहीं होगा। टेलीकॉम रेगुलेटरी अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया [ट्राई] ने ऐसे उपभोक्ताओं को संरक्षण देने के लिए अपने नियमों में बदलाव कर दिया है। ट्राई टेलीकॉम कंज्यूमर प्रोटेक्शन [छठा संशोधन] 22 मार्च 2013 से लागू कर देगा।

ट्राई को बड़े पैमाने पर शिकायतें मिली थी कि कुछ दिनों तक किसी कारणवश प्रीपेड सिम का इस्तेमाल न होने पर टेलीकॉम ऑपरेटर नंबर को जब्त कर लेते हैं। इतना ही नहीं एक हजार रुपये से अधिक का बैलेंस भी कंपनी के खाते में चला जाता है। इस तरह की नब्बे फीसद शिकायतें निजी कंपनियों की तरफ से आई थी। उपभोक्ताओं को मैसेज के जरिये बिना सूचना दिए ही नंबर बंद करने के मामले को ट्राई ने गंभीरता से लिया है। टेलीकॉम नियामक ने इसके लिए नया दिशानिर्देश जारी किया है। 22 मार्च के बाद से ऐसे उपभोक्ताओं के कनेक्शन बंद नहीं होंगे जिन्होंने 90 दिनों के भीतर एक बार फोन, वीडियो कॉल, मूल्य वर्धित सेवाओं, इनकमिंग व आउटगोइंग एसएमएस सेवा का उपयोग किया हो। साथ ही जिनके मोबाइल फोन में न्यूनतम बैलेंस 20 रुपये होगा उनका फोन भी बंद नहीं किया जा सकेगा।
