Aircel has announced that it has launched a tariff plan that offers one rate for Voice, SMS and Data in home circles and on roaming on the Aircel network. The product is an industry first, and comes at a time when other telecom players have raised concerns against dropping charges.
‘One nation, one rate’ will provide the following One India tariff to Aircel customers:
Voice – Local/national calling at 1paisa/second in the home circle as well as on roaming on the Aircel network. Incoming calls while on roaming on the Aircel network will be free∙
SMS – Local and national SMS at Re 1/SMS in the home circle as well as while on roaming
Data – User will be able to carry the home circle rate while on roaming
Anupam Vasudev, Chief Marketing Officer, Aircel, said, “We believe that the launch of this product will create a community of Aircel users and will mark the start of an important chapter in India’s telecom growth story.”

This is cheating. What is the point of making roaming free if the user is still tied to either paying higher call charges with roaming free or user their home circle rates and pay extra while they are travelling. They are making a mockery of the entire issue. I believe the bureaucrats sitting at DoT and TRAI are behind this as they will close on door on telecom operators citing consumer welfare and open another loophole at the same time to keep they paypasters at these TelCos happy. What a Shame!
